Capital Campaign

Introduction

After nine months of behind-the-scenes work, we believe we have an opportunity to launch a capital campaign in two distinct phases. We have entered a season of discernment about how our buildings can better serve the mission God has given St. James’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia. To be clear, our buildings are not the mission—but they are one of the primary tools that make worship, formation, connection with one another, and engagement with our larger community possible.

The campaign will include two improvement phases and one financial ask. The video below gives more detail about Phase One—the essential work required to protect and repair our holy spaces. Your input and hopes will shape Phase Two. We are asking not only, "What must we repair?" but, "What is God calling St. James's to do in this next chapter? How will we respond, and what spaces will equip us to serve faithfully for generations?”

We want to be intentional about both how we use our spaces and why.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Capital Campaign is to align our holy spaces with the life, ministry, and welcome we believe God is asking St. James's to offer.

We are not making a financial request for the Capital Campaign today. As a reminder, a capital campaign funds major improvement projects beyond our annual budget, while our Annual Stewardship Campaign sustains our daily life and ministry. Both are essential. Although the scope of the Capital Campaign is still taking shape, our Annual Stewardship needs are already clear.

For now, we ask two things of you:

  • Take part in our Fall Discernment Process and learn as much as you can.

  • Support us during our Annual Stewardship Campaign, Hope Lives Here.

We have a tremendous opportunity to steward these holy spaces well. Now is the time to commit ourselves to prayer and deep listening as we imagine what may be possible.

Our Prayer

Gracious God, we come before you with grateful hearts for the gift of abundant life, made known to us at St. James’s. We thank you for the mission you have placed before us, and ask you to bless our discernment. Inspire us with the knowledge that your faithfulness abides in ways that we can never fully ask or possibly imagine. Lead us once again into a bold future that glorifies your Kingdom vision. Stir up your Holy Spirit to be present in our asking, our dreaming, and our faithful response. Amen.
