Come to the Table

IN CONVERSATION WITH JOHN VEST
In Beth’s Holy Hospitality update, she shared how the post-communion prayer calls us to take what happens at God’s table on Sunday morning and live it out all week long. As Jesus invited all to be fed so that they, in turn, could feed others, we reflect on how every meal where bread is broken has the power to transform lives, soften hearts, and build true community.

That is why we are so thrilled to again welcome John Vest as our new Director of Hospitality!

John brings a unique blend of experiences to St. James’s—spanning over two decades in church ministry and seven years leading Redemption BBQ, where he championed regenerative agriculture, humanely raised meats, and the art of gathering people around food.

Recently, Beth sat down with John for a conversation about the deep connection between our faith and what’s on the menu. In this video, Beth and John explore:

  • The Ethics of Food: What it means to care about where our food comes from and how it is raised.

  • Theology & Communion: How the everyday act of sharing a meal reflects the very meal Jesus shared with his disciples.

  • Holy Hospitality in Action: How food serves as a subtle, holy bridge for connection, grace, and community.

We invite you to pull up a chair, watch their conversation, and reflect on how God meets us at the table—both in the sanctuary and in our daily lives.

Where do you see opportunities in your own life or neighborhood to practice this kind of intentional, grace-soaked hospitality? Join us as we pray for John’s new ministry among us and look forward to the many shared meals to come!
